Digitalisation challenges education to reform its methods. Along with students needing new kinds of skills, learning itself needs to be reformed. It is especially important to develop pedagogic solutions that make use of digital opportunities, while supporting the development of future competence. Combining digital pedagogy and technology in development work offers students up-to-date skills, as well as flexible study paths and study options that are increasingly in demand in business, as well. Digitalisation supports the institutions’ of higher education Visio 2030 visions of making higher education more accessible, making study paths more flexible and individualised, and making ongoing learning possible. This makes the study options in higher education become more available for different groups.

In this call for papers, digital pedagogy means the use of applications, tools and study materials in teaching and learning in general, and not only in ICT Engineering, as well as methods of teaching and instructing that take place in virtual learning environments and that utilise digital tools.

For the special issue, we are requesting articles on the significance of digital aspects in the development of higher education, as well as the development of business and competence in general. The articles may also cover outlooks and experiences on the role of higher education in the future and the new kind of cooperation between educational institutions made possible by digitalisation. The papers may deal with, for example, digital pedagogy, digital instruction, the digital competence of students and teachers, the quality of online education, cross-institutional studies or the role of business in developing digital higher education and competence.

The maximum length of an expert article is 10,000 characters, that of a review is 4,000 characters and that of an opinion piece is 3,000 characters (punctuation included).
